Whether or not you watched Superbowl LVI, you probably heard about the CoinBase QR code commercial. It was a clever play on the iconic bouncing DVD logo meme, featuring a colorful bouncing QR code directing users to a sign-up bonus. Some say it was successful, and some say it was TOO successful, with the huge influx of traffic causing their site to crash. (We say that’s a pretty good problem to have 😉).
But, how exactly did this ad manage to be so successful, when it was literally just a cryptic QR code bouncing on a screen? 8 or 9 years all we heard was “QR codes are a fad, they’re never going to be popular,” and it was a fair point. The reason is Timing.
This ad had impeccable timing for two reasons:
- Major phone companies decided to make QR Code scanning a native functionality within the camera app.
- Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many restaurants/bars have utilized QR codes for a more touchless menu experience. Therefore training the public on how to use QR codes.
Blezoo has been using QR codes for years, especially in the last few years with Experience-in-a-Box. Spoiler Alert: We think they’re great.
Here are 3 ideas you can use to transform your marketing efforts with QR codes.
1. Use a QR code as a placeholder for content that’s still TBD.
We’ve found awesome success with using QR codes on Experiences created for sales meetings and virtual conferences. But, we know there can be bottlenecks when working with multiple teams or team members.
We got the budget approved, but we’re waiting on design. Got the design, but we’re waiting to finalize copy. We can’t finalize copy until we have our guest speakers lined up. Etc, etc.
At the end of the day, a QR code is really just a link. You can create the link in advance, and add/update your agenda once it’s finalized. Et voilà!
2. Use a QR code as a launchpad to digital content.
Imagine you are an employee opening an onboarding package on your first day of work, scanning a QR code to find a video welcome message from the CEO. It doesn’t get more welcoming than that!
Some other digital content ideas include: link to download an app, schedule a meeting, view your social media profiles, or complete a survey. The options are endless!
3. Tracking, Tracking, Tracking.
You know what they say, “Marketing without data is like driving with your eyes closed!” We know that promotional products are an incredible marketing tool, but tracking your ROI can sometimes be difficult. QR codes solve this issue.
You can use QR codes to track things like # of scans, device/browser, user location, etc. All excellent data points to keep track of.
Best of all, we can make this happen for you.
