I’ve seen phenomenal sales people take average marketing and hit it out of the park. You can’t discount how dynamic the human element can be in these situations. By the same token, I’ve seen ridiculously great marketing carry average sales people to success.
Obviously, if you had the choice you would have the best of both worlds in unison. We recently conducted a Facebook poll if you would prefer to have either (a) GREAT Marketing and average sales people or (b) GREAT sales people and average marketing.
83% of respondents picked (b) and said they would rather have GREAT sales people and average marketing. There is no right or wrong answer here, but it does prove that all things equal the human element is what closes deals. You can’t strictly rely on clever marketing campaigns and slick graphics to fatten the bottom line.
