Every once in a while, when my parents visit, they show up with a box filled with things from my childhood. This may sound familiar to you because, evidently, this is common. Usually, it creates a conundrum for me, though. Do I throw things away or begin my own collection in the attic? Do I really want to remember what middle school kids wrote in my yearbook?
Well, this time they brought me my ’80s toys. This batch included my favorite Transformer of all time, Jetfire. I remember this toy distinctly because it was impossible to find in stores. But when I received it, it became my most coveted possession.
So, after mulling it over, I decided to bring Jetfire to my office. Not because I spend too much time reminiscing about my youth, but because I want to remind myself that it’s okay to have fun!
If laughter is the best medicine, then fun is the best therapy. We should all have fun, intentionally, on a daily basis.
Truthfully, this shouldn’t be too hard given what I do! I’m lucky enough to work in an industry that actually *is* fun. We get to reimagine your brand, and our brand, on a daily basis. Whether it is new branded merch or a fun Experience-in-a-Box, we take ideas and bring them to life. Just like I used to bring my Transformers to life.
If you’re someone reading this thinking, “Having fun is mutually exclusive from being serious about business.” This couldn’t be further from the truth. There is more than meets the eye here (+10 points if this made you smile).
Working without fun is like sleeping on an uncomfortable mattress. Both take up ⅓ of our life, so we might as well make the best of it, right?
Here’s to you, Jetfire. You’ve escaped the attic and you’re now living in my office. Way better climate than Cybertron, to be honest.
What can you bring into your workspace to remind you to have fun? I challenge you to do it today!
